'Flower Fairy Musical'

About

'Flower Fairy Musical' is about children meeting native flower fairies in their garden. The fairies are planning spring celebration party and they need help to deliver the invites. The children are taken on adventure through their neighbouring forest. The fairies they meet, teach them lessons about looking after the environment.

What

While the dance style is musical theatre, it incorporates many styles. Like hip hop, ballet, jazz and contemporary. The musical is fully choreographed for 15 songs. This dance involves some technical dance moves like; turns and leaps ie pirouettes, jeté's etc.

I have noted all the choreography per song. This is very detailed with every move etc. I have video's to support this, though the written choreography is gospel! The video is a visual tool to learn the choreography. It is just a guide and is for the teachers (whom pertain a licence) use only.

There is also music; in guitar chord, written notation, which will also work for keyboards. Plus there is drum notation; written by describing the drum piece. I also have recorded and have written notation of the singing narrators work in guitar. I can teach this if need be and handy.

There are 5 lead roles – 2 boys/1 girl (children) and two fairies, who need dance experience. There are 24 roles in total (2 adults, 2 birds, 3 children, 10 fairies, 5 pixies, 1 god). Can add other cast as flowers, worms, butterfly’s etc. Singers can be on stage by narrator or band one is created; and its encouraged to have other school performers perform at the spring celebration party section, also to get kids to write about the theme and perform this also.

The lead dancers who are on stage for 16 songs. All cast need to be enthusiastic to dance, and to be fit. To enjoy music and singing is essential, and mixed skills is an advantage. All the roles are in the show are below; most of them have short solos at least.

Singing Solo Roles

Jaden (Lead - lots)

The role of mum can be taken on by an adult or a very experienced dancer. As this role has two dance and singing solo's; this could be adapted or deleted if necessary. Another idea is to have kids which are more arty to create pictures about the show/environment too. They could exhibit work at the show as well as provide more props and backdrops.

How

Either it needs to be taught by a teacher (s) that have some dance (ie familiar with dance terminology and understands dance technique)/music/singing training. And/or I am available @ $35 per hour + travel and accommodation costs to support the teacher or teach the work.

This depends on location and I can do specific workshops in turns and leaps (@ $200 per 2 hr workshop, plus travel costs). Plus I could do all the teaching of the dance, again depending on location. This is to learn the choreography especially designed for the music, to produce the production.  So the dance teaching can be tailored to suit your school ie I can do guest teaching classes, with the students to support the teacher, after I've taught them (recommended) or even if they're self taught.

The lead characters, will need to practice around 3 hours per week, for at least 2/3 terms.  This includes weekly singing classes, to learn their solo (which most of the leads have). The choreography allows for headset mikes rather than hand held. The other characters, can do the warm up stretches in 1 x weekly classes, then learn their role when it is due in choreography ie attend rehearsals when their role is featured.

They can learn/practice one song per week (for dance & singing). Then one option, is to add on the following week ie they rehearse the old and then learn the new. For the rehearsals (weekly), that is just practicing what they have learnt in the class prior. (You could also buy the musical CD and props etc, then create your own choreography, though when buying the package, the already done for you).

Education

'Flower Fairy Musical' is teaching kids to look after the environment. It teaches them the names of native trees and birds. Plus they learn about the nature elements and how they can be used respectfully to our benefit. It is iconic 'kiwi' and has been written in the Bay of Plenty.

Options

The musical CD's can be bought individually. Either with a song book with words and pictures eg $28.00 (pack of 10 $260.00) or without see Price list page for further details. This helps children to learn the music; and practice the singing and dancing. Or just the CD's can be purchased on its own, without a booklet.

There are props available including back drops, native trees and costumes etc. The costumes are different sizes, colours and made with natural cotton & dyes. I have some wreaths that flowers could be added to.
