... DanceNZmade Interschool 2020! Read all about it!
5 lucky girls from Paengaroa Primary, recently got to attend the DanceNZmade 2020 event, at Baycourt Theatre in Tauranga. This had been planned for some time, though luckily we still got to enter them, with 2.5 weeks training. They hit the ground running (almost literally), with one of the moves being a dramatic slide to the floor, of course professionally! This was before starting a fast hip hop beat song, starting off with some ‘sasa’ like clapping and tapping on the floor.
The girls spent the day of the 10th August in town, rehearsing and doing several workshops ie hip hop, a finale number for all the students, plus a jazz one. They got to watch many other performers do their routines, all to prepare for the comp that evening. Their families were along to support them in the evening, which was fantastic. They did well considering their express training, though they worked hard in those two weeks, using most lunchtimes and some class time to learn the choreo, which was a mix of levels.

The work was mix of jazz, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. I enjoyed the choregraphy and was proud of my art piece, which mixed four songs. We all had new muscles, I am sure after the finish of the contract! Grateful to Bruce at Paengaroa School for contracting me again, for this event and Dean from DanceNZmade, who made it all possible, by continuing the event, through these last few months.
I had a lovely mix of comments from the girls along the journey ie they loved it, they were so happy, it was so exciting, they love dance which inspired them to continue the arduous journey and great to have opportunity to learn. As some had not danced before and these girls lasted the distance, while that number again pulled out, as the event neared. My favourite experience, was seeing them onstage for their rehearsal, at Baycourt and going through the moves with them.
